THE FUND FOR
PARK AVENUE
Boldfacers In Spring
Ritual For
Tulips Blossoming On The Street
STORY AND PHOTOS BY
TIM BOXER
OME 60,000 red Darwin hybrid Oxford tulip
bulbs that were planted in the fall on Park Avenue traffic islands
made their blooming appearance in the spring to the delight of the
high profilers who live on the avenue of high stakes.
The annual ritual to welcome
the sprouting tulips took place at Scully & Scully fine home
furnishings and luxury gift store where Michael E. Scully
hosted a reception for the big ticket supporters of the Fund for
Park Avenue, headed by president Barbara McLaughlin.
This civic minded group
maintains the trees and flowers on the "boulevard of pricey dreams"
(thank you, Ralph Gardner Jr.) between 54th Street and 86th
Street with contributions from the Upper East Side social elite.
Scully & Scully featured a
fabulous array of table settings inspired by John Glass of
Glass Men’s Wear, Karen Klopp of What2WearWhere, Paola
Quadretti of luxury women’s apparel, Tina Sloan of
Changing Shoes, and Clay Tompkins of Tompkins Menswear.
