D.A. Sends Out
A Call,
Puts Mayor On The Ball
EW
YORK Mayor Michael Bloomberg explained why he dropped into
the eighth annual Heritage dinner of the Museum of Jewish
Heritage: “The D.A. called. As I never want to see him in a
professional capacity, I decided to come.”
Many other notables
heeded the call of Manhattan District Attorney Robert
Morgenthau to come to the dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria. Emcee
Jerry Speyer announced that more than $1 million was
raised.
Among the guests were
Mercedes-Benz USA president Paul Halata, Goldman Sachs
International vice president Robert Hormats, real estate
magnate Larry Silverstein, PR honcho Howard Rubenstein,
Lifestyles publisher Gabriel Erem and philanthropist
Rosa Strygler, museum director/CEO Dr. David G. Marwell
and trustees Fanya Gottesfeld Heller, Judah Gribetz, Rita
Lerner and Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
The first exhibit in the
museum’s newly opened Robert Morgenthau Wing is Ours To Fight
For: American Jews in the Second World War.
Morgenthau, who earned
two Bronze Stars during the war, served as lieutenant commander of
a ship.
“The new wing,”
Bloomberg noted, “is the first construction downtown after the
tragedy of 9/11. We have to continue to fight terrorism and you
are continuing the fight.”
