you think all the fun was in Los Angeles on Academy Awards night,
know that some very lucky New Yorkers were able to score an
invitation to the chicest Oscar viewing party in Gotham.
We’re
talking about the official New York Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences Oscar night bash sponsored by legendary restaurateur Sirio
Maccioni at his very posh Le Cirque.
Maccioni, Arlene Dahl, husband Marc Rosen, and
Arthur Manson, New York Academy Awards event chairmen, have
hosted the private screening every year for a very select group of
New Yorkers who can’t take time out of their schedule to jet to
L.A. and choose to watch the festivities a mere taxi ride from
home.
Among the
crowd sipping champagne and dishing up stories that equaled Le
Cirque’s tasty fare were: Oscar winners Celeste Holm, Cliff
Robertson, Sid Ramis and Marty Richards along with former
Mayor Ed Koch, Rita Gam, Tina Louise, Richard Thomas, Diane
Baker, Jamie de Roy, Sylvia Miles, Israel Horowitz and Eileen
Fulton.
Noted film
historian, writer and columnist Robert Osborne, The Hollywood
Reporter’s debonair man-on-the scene, treated the crowd to
wonderful anecdotes from his new book, 75 Years of Oscar: The
Official History of The Academy Awards.
Further
uptown, Elaine’s was jammed with New York glitterati from
politicos to film stars as the inimitable Elaine Kaufman welcomed
regulars to her Upper East Side boite.
On hand
cheering (and occasionally booing) were the likes of Matt
Dillon, Mariska Hargitay, Gabriel Byrne, John Lequizamo, Rose
McGowan and Oscar winners Liza Minnelli and Tatum
O’Neal.
