CABRINI MISSION
FOUNDATION
Grace
Hightower Thrills
With
Her Singing Debut
By

N
a crisp New York evening, when events were popping all over the
city, 600 New Yorkers, among them former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
and former Governor Mario Cuomo, came to Chelsea Pier 60 to
show their support for the Cabrini Mission Foundation.
The
organization provides services to women, children, and the elderly
through healing, teaching, caring and giving, with a personal and
life-giving approach.
Cabrini
High School Drum Corps put guests into a festive mood as they
socialized, elbow to elbow, during cocktails.
Among
the highlights of the evening, which honored Frederic Salerno,
retired vice chairman of Verizon, was the singing debut of actress Grace
Hightower, who has appeared in films Ghostbusters II and Malcolm
X.

She
opened the evening with God Bless America. The Cabrini High
School Singers with Chuck Mymit on piano provided backup.
Grace ended the evening with a rousing Love Is in the Air
that brought the room to a standing ovation.
Other
noteworthy moments were the brief speeches by Sister Lucille
Souza, president and CEO of the foundation, and Daniel D.
Rubino, a partner at Willke, Farr & Gallagher.
There
was an especially enthusiastic reception for Tibisay Hernandez,
president of the senior class and a National Merit Honor student.
Saint
Frances Cabrini founded the Mission of the Scared Heart of
Jesus in 1880. It was
one of the first orders of women missionaries.
In 1889, under the direction of Pope Leo XIII,
she came to the United States where she founded schools, orphanages,
hospitals and social service institutions to serve the needs of
immigrants.
