HE
Associates Committee of the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering
Cancer Center raised $190,000 for the Department of Pediatrics at
their annual gambling party, this year dubbed Midnight in Monte
Carlo. The sponsors were Salomon Smith Barney and Cartier, who
contributed $40,000 and printed the stunning invitations.
Cartier
added to the glamour of the night with jewelry that sparkled on
chairperson Jennifer Creel, resplendent in a nude beaded Valentino
gown, and her committee: Hillary Dick, Helen Shifter, Dayssi
Olarte de Kanavos, Tory Burch and Eugenie Niven.
Ron
Wendt dramatically transformed the Metropolitan Club into a French
Mediterranean gambling casino. He used a midnight blue and black
color scheme, dangling mirrored mobiles and huge ostrich plumes.

Silent
auction items and gambling prizes included luxurious objects from
Carolina Herrera, Dior, Frette and LeSport Sac, as well as tickets
to Venice on Delta Air Lines, beauty enhancement by Dr. Howard
Sobel and smile brightening by Dr. James Eisdorfer.
The
Society’s president, Laurie Carson, was there as well as
many of her team members including Barbara McLaughlin, Lisa
McCarthy, Courtney Arnot, Alexia Hamm Pickett, Alexandra Lind Rose
and Nicole Micco, who was especially acknowledged by Mrs.
Creel for putting it all together so seamlessly.
Kevin
Kline with Phoebe Cates, in a vintage black and silk Leonard gown,
joined in the fun along with Prince Pavlos and Marie
Chantal of Greece, Nicole Miller, Rick and Kathy
Hilton, Somers and Jonathon Farkas, R. Couri Hay with
Elite Model-of-the-Year Heidi Albertsen, Richard Torrenzano
and Polly Onet.

Other
guests and committee members included Mary and Michael
Darling, Dr. Robert
Arnot, Tony Dick, Alexis Waller, Roger and Stephanie
Griswold, Samantha and Serena Boardman, NV Club’s Shamin
Abas and Frank Cilione,
Nancy Stratford and Avery Knox, Nina Tower,
Caroline Berthet, Patrick McMullan, and Mary Hilliard.
Throughout
dinner, guests sipped Taittinger champagne to the evocative melodies
of chanteuse Phoebe Legere and her sexy white accordion at
tables decorated with long
stemmed French tulips in crystal trumpet vases, white orchids and
roses under water in seemingly magically lit glass cylinders.
Mr.
Wendt used dark navy taffeta tablecloths. There was a Cartier box
and baby bottles of Taittinger with real bubbles for everyone to
play with.
Following
dinner, they whooped it up at blackjack, roulette, and other gaming
tables, while DJ Tom Finn kept the dance floor jumping.
