Eating
in London
To Support the Brits
RONIC,
isn’t it? During the War of Independence, our enemy was Great
Britain; our friend was France. Today the opposite prevails. Since
9/11, circumstances have prompted us to disdain the French and
direct our support to the Brits.
Instead of
French fries, some Americans have taken to fish ‘n chips.
So we can’t
do better in showing our appreciation to Great Britain for standing
with us against an evil regime in Iraq than to spend our vacation
dollars in Limeyland.
In London we
recommend these outstanding eating places guaranteed to thrill your
palate.
Just St.
James (12 St. James’ Street, SW1, 7976 2222) is among the best
restaurants the British have to offer.
First course
choices include Breast of Pigeon, Honey Glazed Foie Gras &
Chicken Liver Salad. The menu offers vegetarian as well as fish and
meat dishes. The desserts are spectacular ranging from Baked
Chocolate Pudding with orange scented custard to Just Brulees. The
wine selection is awesome.

The Crescent |
Just The
Gallery, situated above the restaurant, is dedicated to private
parties of 20 to 120 guests. Although separated in private space,
guests still feel the warm friendly ambience of the main restaurant.
Just
Oriental (19 King Street, SW1, 7930 9292) can be reached at its
own entrance around the corner or by the stairs or elevator in Just
St. James. Naturally, you expect delicious Oriental cuisine, and
that’s just what you’ll get.
Just the
Bridge (1 Paul’s Walk, Millennium Bridge north side, EC4, 7236
0000) lets you dine in casual comfort at the foot of the famed
Wobbly Bridge. Gaze at the passing boats on the Thames. Across the
river are the Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre.

Yatra |
The
Crescent (34 Great Cumberland Place, Marble Arch, W1, 7402 4288)
is an elegant restaurant with an excellent selection of mains. Chef
Stephen Whitney will take good care of you in the modern British
manner.
Yatra (Dover
Street, Mayfair W1, 7493 0200). Owner Sonu Lalvani serves
traditional and contemporary Indian cuisine in two surroundings: one
offering European tables and chairs; the other low-level seating for
reclining over a meal.
