Gluck Pays Tribute
To Supporters of Learning
T
was a night of tribute to several individuals who have been crucial
in the support of educational institutions at Bet El, a religious
town in Samaria, north of Jerusalem. Eugen Gluck, who
has devoted his life to the upbuilding of the yeshiva center there,
presided over the 18th annual dinner of the American
Friends of Bet El Yeshiva Center, held at the Marriott Marquis in
Manhattan.
Rabbi Steven Pruzansky
and wife Karen were the guests of honor. He is the spiritual
leader of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun in Teaneck, N.J. He is a board
member of Pro Israel and the One Israel Fund. He also serves as the
American spokesman for the International Rabbinic Coalition for
Israel. Karen is a speech-language pathologist.
The Keter Torah Award was
presented to Rabbi Elyahu Ben Haim and his wife Edna.
A native of Jerusalem, Ben-Haim was recognized as a brilliant
student and received ordination at age 17.
As a reserve soldier in
Gen. Ariel Sharon’s division in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, he
participated in the crossing of the Suez Canal.
He is the rabbinic leader
of Congregation Shaare Torah in Kew Gardens, Queens. He also serves
as rosh yeshiva of the Department of Sephardic Studies at Yeshivat
Rabbeinu Yitzhak Elchanan of Yeshiva University.
David Romanoff
and wife Syndi received the Shomer Bet El Award. He
established a software firm in Elizabeth, N.J. where he and his wife
raised eight children. He serves on the boards of the town’s
Jewish Educational Center and the YM-YWHA of Union County.
Mrs.
Bonny Silver, the recipient of the Aishet Chayil Award, is
well known in the Toronto for her charitable work in Jewish
education and bikur cholim (tending to the needs of the sick).
