OBIN ROBERTS, ABC’s Good Morning America co-anchor, was honored with a Medal of Distinction by Lenox Hill Hospital at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Dr. Lauren Cassell, who had been Robin’s surgeon, said that after a diagnosis of breast cancer, "Robin had to decide whether to keep her problem a private matter or share her journey with the rest of the world.  It took great courage for her to choose the latter.

Gladys George, president and CEO of Lenox Hill Hospital, and chairmen William O. Hiltz, presented the award, citing Robin’s "personal strength and courage in promoting early breast cancer detection and treatment."

Past awardees included Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Beverly Sills, Lena Horne, Neil Simon, Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Harry Belafonte, Joe Namath, Katie Couric, Whoopi Goldberg, John McEnroe, Tom Brokaw, Julie Andrews, Bette Midler, and Al Roker and Deborah Roberts.

For more than a century, the Autumn Ball has been regarded as one of the season’s most glamorous events. This year the elegant evening raised more than two million dollars and entertained over 840 guests.

Benefit co-chairmen were Ellen and Daniel Crown and Karen and William Lauder. Guests included Dr. Sherrell and Muffie Potter Aston, Richard and Francesca Stanfield Nye, KT Sullivan and Steve Downy, Jean and Ralph Baruch, Ellen and James Marcus, Katherine and John McEnroe, Clo and Charles Cohen, Dr. Stuart Orsher, Clifford Orsher, Judy Hiltz, Jacques Blinbaum, Dr. David Edelstein, Dr. Neal F.
