N Earth Day Dan Lufkin was on the Great Hill in Central Park cutting the ribbon on the Central Park Conservancy's Peter Jay Sharp Children's Glade. It was made possible by a three million dollar donation by the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation and its directors, including Lufkin and his wife Cynthia and Liliane and Norman Peck. Adrian Benepe, commissioner of the Department of Parks & Recreation, and the Lufkins' daughter Schuyler Hazard also participated in the ribbon cutting.
"By carving out the Children's Glade, Central Park has just gotten larger," said Conservancy president Doug Blonsky.
It was a family day. Among the guests were the Lufkin's baby Aster Lee; Robert DeNiro's wife Grace Hightower and sons Elliot, Julian and Aaron; Kristen Mahan and daughters Emily and Caroline; Michelle Marie, Jon and Hudson Heinemann; Peter Sharp's sister Mary Cronson; Governor Hugh Carey's family: Catherine, Bryan, Bryan, Jr. and Paul Carey.
Also Muffie Potter Aston and her twin daughters Ashleigh and Bracie; Jim Taylor and his children Caroline and Elliott; Elizabeth and Olivia Fuller; Darcy and George Gould; Serena and Gillian Miniter with their Havanese Fluffy; Elena, George and Stella Stephanopoulos; David and Emily Post; Ben and Robert Williams; Ian and Chloe Geller, and famed landscape designer Edwina von Gal, who contributed to The Glade's design.
