RT world legend Lowery Stokes Sims, former president of the Studio Museum in Harlem and longtime curator of modern art at the Metropolitan Museum, chaired Evidence Dance Company’s annual Grace in Winter Gala which added major sparkle to the winter social season. This annual fundraiser for Ronald K. Brown’s internationally acclaimed dance troupe held at the Hudson Theater in the Millennium Broadway Hotel was one of the most glamorous soirees in a season filled with fabulous fetes.
Gala chair Gayle Perkins Atkins filled the landmark theater with a fashion parade of debonair gents and glamorous gals in old Hollywood slinky, fish-tailed gowns, opulent furs and plenty of dazzling jewels.
Joyce Mullins Jackson, with hubby Judge Bernard Jackson on her arm, swept into the room swathed in a clingy satin navy blue gown that would have made Rita Hayworth green with envy.
Town & Country’s Alexis Clarke in a retro-chic matte gold figure hugging b.Michael was major eye candy. Ditto Hamptons.com’s Nicole Brewer in a bare shouldered va-va-voom number that had the waiters stop in their tracks. Amy Fine Collins glittered in deep electric blue with a matching feathered cape.
Oscar winning actress Cicely Tyson swathed in pleated satin came with couturier b.Michael. Minutes later the photon flashes became blinding as the legendary Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Rita Moreno arrived.
Eye catching finery was not confined to the ladies. Chairman Reginald Van Lee was dashing in an elegantly simple black dinner jacket with a back of gold brocade featuring ancient symbols from b.Michael’s newly debuted Homme line. Mitchell Madison partner Neil Lowe also sported a dinner suit from the designer’s collection.
