AMERICAN SCOTTISH FOUNDATION
Euan Baird Honored At
50th Wallace Award Dinner

By Edward T. Callaghan

OR five decades the American-Scottish Foundation has been bringing Scotland and the United States together through the pursuit of cultural, educational and business interests.

This year they celebrated their 50th anniversary at their annual Wallace Award Dinner honoring businessman Euan Baird, former chairman and CEO of Schlumberger L&G and non-executive chairman of Rolls Royce.

Eleanor Taffner and Mrs. Stanley DeForest Scott co-chaired the gala which drew an elegant crowd, many wearing traditional Highland dress. Foundation president Alan L. Bain presented the award to Baird.

Gala committee members from the U.S. included Heather L. Bain, Dr. Malcolm J. Duncan, Robert Fletcher, Margaret R. K. Kennedy, Linda Lees, David C. Speedie, J. Michael Dow, Alexander Banks, Pete Grannis, Tom Lewis, Alan Ritchie and Dr. James F. Winchester.

Committee members from Scotland included Dr. Brian Lang, Sir Alan Langlands and Prof. C. Duncan Rice. Also from Scotland was Master of Ceremonies, Alasdair H. Hutton O.B.E., T.D.

With the runways in New York and Paris filed with all things tartan, committee member Heather Bain was very au courant in a couture dress and coat with train designed by ultra hot Glasgow designer Joyce Young.

Scotland House, hosted by World-Wide Business Centers, is home of the foundation, the epicenter of American-Scottish life in New York City. Among the many activities sponsored by the foundation is the annual Tartan Day Celebration in April.
