Celebrating 30 Years

Photos by Cutty McGill and Patrick McMullan  ELIEVE it or not Doubles, the legendary club in the Sherry-Netherland Hotel on Fifth Avenue at Grand Army Plaza in the heart of Manhattan, turned 30 years old this year.
The club's guiding light, Wendy Carduner, looking sensational in a silk peach-striped gown by Carolina Herrera, tossed an anniversary party in a style that befitted the establishment that is renowned for its good times and notable social members. Champagne corks popped and electricity crackled from the very start. The tables were alluring with pink tablecloths and centerpieces of white and bashful pink roses in square crystal vases. Each guest received a silver key chain as a memento of the occasion – hearts for the ladies and tennis rackets for the men. Wendy introduced Peter Duchin and his Orchestra and the party went over the rainbow. Peter played a mix of swing, disco and rock and roll that kept the dance floor packed until midnight. Roberta Fabiano was his hot band singer. Chef Steven Mellina and Maitre d’ Gerard Loil outdid themselves. The 228 guests looked fabulous, the men in black tie and the women in gowns, including Harry Platt, Patricia Patterson, Tom Pulling and Norma Dana who represented the Doubles Founders List and original house committee. Others having a ball were Dan and Cynthia Lufkin, Lisa and David Schiff, Grace and Chris Meigher, Arlene Dahl and Marc Rosen, Mario Buatta, Janna Bullock, Marife Hernandez and Joel Bell, Dennis Basso and Michael Cominotto, Debbie Bancroft, Geoffrey Bradfield, Thorunn, Soffia and Berge Wathne, Jamie Figg, Felicia Taylor, Eileen Pulling, Ambassador Enriquillo and Audrey del Rosario, Ambassador Brenda and Howard Johnson, Donna Simonelli and Bryan Johnson.
