RNEST MICHEL, who survived the death camps of Poland and Germany, presented an award for humanitarian excellence to Cuban-born Gedalio Grinberg at the UJA-Federation’s diamond, jewelry and watch division dinner at the New York Hilton.

“We have something in common,” Michel said. “Gedalio and I speak with an accent – but his is worse.”

“What we have in common is our love for the U.S.A,” said Grinberg, founder and board chairman of the Movado Group.

Benny Shabtai, president of Raymond Weil, presented a leadership of excellence award to Mary L. Forte, president of Zale Corp., the largest specialty jeweler in the country.

“Thank God I have an accent, too,” she said. “It’s hard to understand – it’s from Philadelphia.”
