Cooking Up Fantasies

Photos by Chance Yeh /PMc

ARCH OF DIMES Gourmet Gala was an ode to food and wine, with French and American master chefs. With ingredients like that, you throw in some fabulous celebrities and you’re guaranteed a fantastic evening.

This year’s event celebrated American French Master Chefs at the Pierre Hotel. Lovers of fabulous food came from all over to indulge their fantasies.

Generous philanthropists Sheila and Danny Rosenblum have made this one of the top foodie events in the city.

Under the direction of co-chair Bob Chavez, head of Hermes US, some 400 eager diners wined and dined in the Grand Ballroom of the Pierre.  Ballet stars Irina Dvovorenko and husband and partner Maxim Belotserkovsky headed a long list of celebrities and committee members, including Larry and Denise Wohl, Michelle and Frank Rella, Dara Sowell, Lucia Hwang, and the ubitiquitous Patrick McMullan, who is everywhere these days promoting his fantastic book so80s.

Trump Honors A Competitor

HE Angel Ball, benefiting The G&P Foundation, has quickly established itself as one of the must-attend benefits in the city.  Why?  Powered by powerbroker Denise Rich, who created the foundation in memory and honor of her daughter Gabriella, all monies go for cancer research. Gabriella died of cancer after a 4 year heroic battle against the disease.

This is an evening of music, so whilst the guests ate, drank and danced, some of the country's greatest performers sang their wonderful hearts out. Marc Anthony, Wyclef Jean, Patti LaBelle, Jessica Simpson, Dame Shirley Bassey, who'd flown in to honor  Sol Kerzner...on and on and on into the night, the music played.

Corporate leader Sol Kerzner, master hotelier, developer and community philanthropist was introduced by the inimitable Donald Trump, who has been a long time competitor and admirer of Sol's.

The evening was so long, action packed and thrilling that many of the 1200 guests opted out of the after party, except for partygoers extraordinaire Ivana Trump and Rossano Rubicondi, Sale Johnson, Laura Hunt, and a few hundred others.

The Kiss Of Fame

HE luncheon I love—the Women's Power Lunch benefiting City Meals on Wheels.  It's an annual lovefest founded by Gael Greene, and raised almost $800,000 thanks to the great generosity of sponsors MasterCard, represented by U.S. president Ruth Ann Marshall, and Carillon Importers headed by the divine Michel Roux.

Christie Hefner, Lynn Sher, Kathleen Turner, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Katie Couric and many others were there.

The high spot of the show was when fabulous performer Andrea Marcovicci joked that the only way she'd get into emcee Liz Smith's column was by planting a Brit Spears/Madonna kiss on her.

Robert Grimes bid $1,000 for that to happen.  And it did—to the cheers and screams of 300 happy women.

This is a great charity, a great event, and it is wonderful to see so much power in one room!
