ORT Hillary Places Blames On Arafat for Terror Story and Photos by Tim Boxer ILLARY RODHAM CLINTON had some fighting words to get off her chest before going into the American ORT dinner at New York’s Pierre Hotel. She called upon the whole world to condemn the latest terrorist attacks in Jerusalem and Haifa. “We must make clear that Yasir Arafat is responsible,” she said. “This outrage rests solely on his shoulders.” The senator from New York joined Murray Koppelman, former president of American ORT and current vice president of World ORT, in being honored with the Ambassador David B. Hermelin Award. Before going in for dinner Clinton huddled with Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Then they faced a clutch of TV cameras and reporters to condemn Arafat for the continued violence in Israel. “The government and people of Israel,” she said, “will have the support of all people united against terrorism. Anyone who harbors or turns a blind eye to terrorists will be held accountable.” Hoenlein said that more than half of the attacks came from Arafat’s own group. “Can he stop it? An unequivocal yes.” |
