Barbra Celebrates With
Israel’s Shimon Peres

B
ARBRA STREISAND, queen of Hollywood (and Brooklyn), was treated royally for five days at the luxury Dan Tel Aviv Hotel when she arrived June 18 for President Shimon Peres’s 90th birthday celebration.

The diva was accompanied by an entourage that occupied 100 rooms. Her group included her son, sister, dog and the designer Donna Karan.

Streisand entered the hotel secretly through the back door and was accompanied by the hotel’s general manager, Etai Elias, to the Royal Suite where many treats like fruits, chocolates, cola zero awaited her in accordance with prior requests.

The birthday celebration for Peres, who was born Aug. 2, 1923, was a humongous affair. Barbra, 71, thrilled the 2,000 guests among whom were Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Robert De Niro, and Sharon Stone who rewarded Barbra with a standing ovation for her People  and Avinu Malkeinu.

Peres – the world's oldest head of state – said it was "worth waiting 90 years to hear such a heavenly voice," according to UK’s The Guardian.

Gabrielle with Dr. Ruth and Mr. T
Not A Blind Date But A Gag
Got James To Wed Gabrielle

F
RIENDS of James Frawley tried their best to get him on a blind date with Gabrielle Lehu. He consistently declined, on principle, as he doesn’t do blind dates.

At a convention James posed with Mr. T. He circulated the picture as a gag. Someone sent it to Gabrielle who thought it came from James. Naturally she felt obligated to respond. That response led to their first date.

Gabrielle of JP Morgan Chase and Jim of UBS exchanged vows on April 27 at St. Andrew the Apostle RC Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where Fr. Matt Foley, who was Jim's college roommate, officiated. A reception followed at the Dyker Beach Golf Club.

Among the 165 guests was a poster stand-in for Mr. T, not one of your standard wedding decorations even though he was decorated with lots of bling. His manikin was not inappropriate however because of the role he played in getting the young couple together.

Another guest was Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Gabby’s father, Pierre Lehu, has been Dr. Ruth’s minister of communications for 30 years. So there she was – no manikin but live, in person, and a grrreat dancer! She proved it with Fr. Matt Foley, a Franciscan monk.

"I would have danced with Mr. T as well," Dr. Ruth exclaimed, "but he was too weighted down with gold chains around his neck!"

SECOND TIME General Manager Chen Michaeli was delighted to welcome American actor John Malkovich to the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv ahead of his stage performance in May as part of the Eilat Chamber Music Festival. Malkovich and his partner checked into their luxury Executive Suite on the hotel’s 17th floor for a three-night stay. This was his second visit to Israel but the first time for a performance.
