JCCA
Service To Community Runs In The Tisch Family
STORY AND PHOTOS BY TIM BOXER
ONATHAN M. TISCH, chairman of
Loews Hotels, said he learned philanthropy from his parents,
Joan and Robert Tisch, "who deeply cared for the
community." He also paid tribute to his sister Laurie
"who is doing so much for those who need assistance."
For his longtime charity and support,
the Jewish Child Care Association honored Jonathan Tisch
at a dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in New York. John
Rosenwald, vice chairman emeritus of JP Morgan, praised Tisch
for all his philanthropic and civic endeavors, and presented him
with a Steuben glass plaque.
The award read: "The only place that
success comes before work is in the dictionary."
For 190 years JCCA has been looking
after the welfare and mental health needs of New York’s children
including running therapeutic foster homes, coed residential
treatment centers, programs for the special needs of high school
and college kids, a Bukharian teen lounge, and many other
services. Tonight’s event raised $945,000 for these social
welfare programs.
President Arthur Maslow said
the organization "started out with helping Jews who came to
these shores facing tremendous challenges. Since then JCCA has
evolved to helping everybody who needs help. We are helping
young women caught up in the sex trade, not in Asia, but in our
own back yard. Thanks to JCCA these young women are now growing
up hopeful."
